Sasha Jacob on ways of getting involved in wildlife conservation

1. Fuel your passion

If you are passionate about a certain subject, may it be an animal, a plant, or an issue, sign up and get involved. Most organizations in those fields are non-profit and being a member will most likely cost you nothing.

By being part of their campaign, you can help them in raising the money necessary to achieve their vision. There are currently a number of smaller conservation groups that focus on specific species such as barn owls, dragonflies, sharks, and seals. Smaller conservative groups often leave visible impacts and tackles issues and concerns that are easier to grasp yet relevant.

2. Help to protect the bees

Pesticides have always been the number one reason why the bee population declines. Recently, more and more associations that are dedicated to helping conserve the bee population have been established. They have been raising international awareness on the impact of losing species of bees and ways to help in preventing it from occurring.

3. Create a wildlife-friendly garden

Whatever the size of your garden, it can serve as a haven for birds, bees, bugs and other small creatures. Ecologists say it’s common for small creatures to crawl into your yard and create a habitat. As much as possible, you need to consider a few things when mowing or cleaning up your yard as it may injure or kill these animals. Instead of cutting down trees, trim it instead as it can be a home for birds and squirrels.

4. Save the seas

Organizations such as  Marine Conservation Society is solely focused on restoring the life of the sea by campaigning for clean seas and beaches, sustainable fisheries and protection for all marine life. You can do so b y signing up or by simply following what the group practices. Start by cleaning up the beaches and by making sure to dispose of all your waste properly as it can destroy habitats and hurt marine animals.

5. Save wild spaces

Wildlife conservation is becoming less of a challenge all thanks to the growing efforts of conservationists. Some of them concentrate on saving ancient woods under threat while others are focused on saving the animals. Either way, the increase in a number of organizations have drastically improved the wildlife over the years.

You may also sign up for them if you truly wish to see a large impact.

5. Campaign against all forms of illegal wildlife trade

Sasha Jacob together with WWF Canada has identified at least 19 most endangered species globally and has taken action since then. The organization combines science with action through providing an outstanding conservation possible for the wildlife and ecosystems present at critically endangered sites.

If you share the same passion for them, you may support them by adopting an animal, making a donation, or by signing up to become a member.

Finally, get involved in saving the rainforest. According to Sasha Jacob, this can greatly contribute to helping indigenous people and local communities as most of them rely their daily needs on the rainforest. However, some poachers exploit their resources and eventually leads the community to extreme poverty and starvation.

Support campaigns that influence national and international laws to protect the rainforest and their inhabitants. By convincing others to join, the group would grow hence would be easily heard.
